The Innovative Metals Processing Centre (IMPC) is an initiative of the successful collaboration between The University of Sheffield and Boeing.
Operating under the umbrella of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), IMPC will focus on developing a world-class centre of excellence in modern methods for manufacturing components in metals and new materials.
IMPC is expected to create a range of commercial openings for partner companies, including SMEs, in a new growing market of fast product development and full/mass customization. In forming IMPC, The University of Sheffield with Boeing is creating a world-class community in the Yorkshire and Humber region, where the metal products’ design and manufacture is historically a strong business.
IMPC will play a central role in the development of the flagship Advanced Manufacturing Park in South Yorkshire and the development of new supply chains for the aerospace and medical industries (but not only) in Yorkshire and the Humber. Supported by Yorkshire Forward, IMPC is proud to operate under the “Yorkshire Alive with Opportunity!” brand, which represents a holistic approach to a region that is as successful and dynamic as it is diverse.
IMPC’s ambition to be a National Centre can only be fully realised by reaching out to national and international leaders in the field and fully integrating them into Research, Development and Technology Transfer programmes with a national and indeed international focus.
